About

Scientific Writing in Health and Medicine (SWIHM) is part of the Integrative Medicine Institute (IMI), which was founded in 1993 to support systematic data collection in healthcare. IMI collaborated on the development of international data collection networks evaluating effectiveness, patient satisfaction, and costs in the 1990s. Since that time, IMI has focused its efforts into health research reporting guidelines, case reports and clinical practice guidelines.  Dr. Riley participated in the development of the CONSORT guidelines in 1999 and later co-led the development of the CARE guidelines for case reports. Articles on CARE have been published in 2013 and 2017 in the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology.

SWIHM has offered online case report writing training following the CARE guidelines since 2017.  The CARE case report guidelines, first published in 2013, are available in multiple languages and are widely accepted as a standard for evidence-based case reports. SWIHM’s mission is to educate the global community of healthcare providers in the creation and sharing of case reports following the CARE guidelines. We strive for excellence and adhere to the values of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and transparency; gaining credibility and earning trust through communication with the global healthcare community.
