New List of Scientific Journals Publishing Case Reports
There are dozens of journals worldwide that explicitly accept case reports. We have recently compiled a new, updated list of these journals, which can be found here.
The number of published case reports following health research reporting guidelines is growing in indexed scientific journals and also on preprint servers. Emerging evidence from clinical practice combined with research can better inform healthcare delivery today.
A journal in which you wish to publish may only accept case reports as components of other articles. For example, Driggers et al, published a case report as part of a “brief report” in 2016 on the Zika virus in the NEJM with an excellent timeline documenting maternal viremia and its effect on the fetus.
Articles published in indexed scientific journals may have been rejected from one journal, revised, and then published in a second or even third journal. We recommend that authors choose two to three medical journals when considering where to publish – one first choice and two backups.
